In collaboration with Maeve Doyle, I am working on a documentary about the development of molecular visualization.

The 20th century saw enormous advances in our collective understanding of chemistry and biology. Core to those advances were new ways of thinking about and—crucially—picturing the molecules that are the building blocks of all living things. Scientists and artists collaborated to create new symbols and conventions to explore, communicate, and argue about the unfolding molecular world. This new visual language, and its many dialects, continues to evolve, and is a central part of scientific discovery in the biosciences.

There are many fascinating events and characters in this largely untold story, and we hope to bring them to life, and see how molecular worlds are being rendered ever more complex and visible.

We have done a number of interviews, and hope to soon have WIP clips to share.
